Spiritual Beings

Ever since The Bible Project introduced this series of videos earlier this year, I’ve wanted to share them with you. They completed the series and posted the final video this past June, and I’m finally getting around to posting them on my blog as well. I think this series gives good insight and a better understanding of what is happening in the spiritual realm. I found the videos fascinating and educational, and I hope you enjoy them too.

The seven short (average of 5 mins each) videos below creatively show the role of various spiritual beings, how they have operated throughout history, and how Jesus’ death and resurrection brought heaven and earth together again. Even though most people don’t “see” what is happening in the spiritual realm, the prophetic “seers” do. My daughter Heather is a “seer” and she says the spiritual realm is an amazing, wonderful and sometimes freighting experience. However, she also knows that Jesus is King and this thought alleviates any fears.

Many times I’ve wished to “see” like Heather, although, I know I’ve seen my guarding angel in the natural realm at least on one occasion (I’ll share that story in a future blog post.) What I do know is that God is with us and spiritual beings are all around us fighting for and against us. This is why I love the beautiful promise found in Psalm 34:7 which says, “For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.”

May you become more aware of how God is blessing you with these unseen beings and thank Him for their service. Let us join with the living beings around the throne who say, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” Rev. 4:8 When we rejoice with them, we will be blessed and be a blessing In Jesus Name!

In the first pages of the Bible, we're introduced to God and humans as the main characters. But there's also a whole cast of spiritual beings who play an important role throughout the Bible, though they're often in the background. The Angel of the Lord is one of the most fascinating spiritual beings in the Hebrew Scriptures. Every time this figure appears, he's depicted as if he is God, but also an angel sent by God. In this video, we explore this paradoxical character and discover how he prepares us for the grand claims that will be made about Jesus in the New Testament.

The storyline of the Bible presents a populated spiritual world, full of creatures who are in rebellion against their Creator, just like humans. For lots of fascinating reasons, our modern conceptions of these spiritual rebels are based on serious misunderstandings of the Bible.

In the opening pages of the Bible, God appoints humans to rule the world on his behalf. But when they rebel, the biblical story leads us on a search for a new humanity that will be God's faithful partners, forever.
